Using the diamond tipped wand, the top layer of skin is removed while a gentle vacuum takes away the dead cells. Next a cooling is mask is applied. Then the face is massaged with a vitamin-filled cream to help new skin cells grow. Finally, air is blown over Mary's face to cool and re-moisturize.

It uses a "diamond encrusted wand to vacuum the skin, so you get a more even abrasion without the gritty residue of the sodium bicarbonate crystals," he says.

...a new machine that is under the brand name of NewApeel® doesn't even use particles. Instead, it resurfaces with "a diamond-chip-encrusted wand" with variable grits. Like in regular microdermabrasion, this machine uses suction, and the doctor can turn it up or down to control the depth of the procedure. It's also supposedly less drying than the aluminum-oxide crystals.
